Lloyd Jay Merino, a beloved husband, father, and veteran, passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on October 12, 2023. Surrounded by loved ones in his Hooper, Utah home, Lloyd left behind a profound legacy of love, service, and creativity.
Born in 1945, Lloyd dedicated over two decades of his life to serving his country as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps. He selflessly served multiple terms of duty in Vietnam before transitioning to the Active USMC Reserves. His commitment and dedication to his service were unwavering, and he retired from the Marine Corps after 23 years of faithful duty.
Beyond his military service, Lloyd will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, and his genuine desire to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Whether it was a kind word or a practical gesture, he was always ready to support others in any way he could. He exemplified what it meant to be a generous and caring individual.
Lloyd’s artistic talents were also a significant part of his life. He had a knack for working with stained glass, art framing, woodworking, and folk art painting. His creations adorned the homes of his loved ones as cherished gifts, showcasing both his skill and his affection. Lloyd’s artistic pursuits allowed him to express his creativity and leave a lasting impact on those closest to him.
An avid outdoorsman, Lloyd found solace and joy in nature. He embraced the beauty of the world around him and cherished the moments spent in its embrace. Whether it was exploring the wilderness, fishing in serene lakes, or simply enjoying the peace of the great outdoors, Lloyd’s love for nature was evident.
The family of Lloyd Jay Merino would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Intermountain HC Hospice team. The compassionate care offered by the team of dedicated professionals, including the registered nurses, aides, social workers, and Chaplain, was invaluable in providing comfort and support during Lloyd’s final days. Their kindness will always be remembered.
In accordance with Lloyd’s wishes, he was cremated under the guidance of the Neptune Society, and his ashes were scattered at sea. This final journey signifies his close connection to the water and his desire to rest eternally in the boundless embrace of the sea.
Lloyd Jay Merino’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of his beloved wife, Elizabeth Jessen, his son, David (Georgia) Merino, his daughter, Kathy (James) Oatfield, his stepson, Erik (Chan) Jessen, his granddaughter, Avery Jessen, and his brother, Carl (Theresa) Merino.
