What does the "Create Post" flow look like on mobile vs. desktop?

A practical answer page built from the knowledge base source.

On desktop — using Reddit's standard new interface at reddit.com — the Create Post flow is initiated by clicking the large plus icon or the "Create Post" button, typically found in the sidebar of a community page or at the top of your feed. This opens a full-page editor where you first choose a community from a search field, then select a post type using a row of tabs labeled Post, Images & Video, Link, and Poll. The text editor on desktop is a rich-text interface called Fancy Pants by default, which provides a formatting toolbar with buttons for bold, italics, links, headers, lists, and code blocks. You can switch to markdown mode for direct syntax input if you prefer. Once you add a title, body content, and any optional flair or tags, the Submit button posts the content immediately. On the Reddit mobile app — available for iOS and Android — the flow begins by tapping the plus icon at the bottom center of the screen. The app prompts you to select a community first before anything else, which is a meaningful difference from desktop where the community can be chosen mid-composition. After selecting a community, the app presents a simplified post creation screen. The toolbar at the bottom of the text field lets you add images, links, or formatting. One notable advantage of the mobile app is the ability to combine an image with a body text block in the same post more seamlessly than on desktop, because the app displays a dedicated camera icon that layers images into the composition without requiring you to switch post types. Both platforms let you add flair, tag posts as NSFW or Spoiler, and preview before submitting. The key practical differences are that desktop gives you a richer text editor with more formatting control, while mobile makes image attachment and on-the-go posting feel more natural. Some communities and moderator settings may expose different options depending on the platform, so if you cannot find a particular feature, trying the other interface is worth attempting.
