Final Space, the popular animated series, will bid farewell to Netflix in all international territories by mid-December 2023. The show, created by Olan Rogers and developed alongside David Sacks, originally aired on TBS before making its way to Adult Swim for its final two seasons.

Known for its captivating storyline and stellar voice cast, including Olan Rogers, David Tennant, Coty Galloway, Steven Yeun, Tom Kenny, Tika Sumpter, and Fred Armisen, Final Space follows the thrilling adventures of a human prisoner in space as he embarks on an interstellar mission to save the universe.

Since 2018, Netflix has held exclusive rights to the series outside of the United States, securing the rights for the first season and subsequently acquiring seasons 2 and 3 in 2019 and 2020, respectively.

A notice has now appeared on the Netflix page for Final Space, announcing that the last day to watch the show will be on December 15th, with the actual removal taking place on December 16th. This coincides with approximately two and a half years since the addition of the show’s final season in September 2021.

This announcement shouldn’t come as a surprise, as we had previously reported that the removal was scheduled for 2023, following the controversy surrounding the show’s removal from Max (previously HBO Max) last September. Warner Bros. Discovery had removed several shows from Max in order to benefit from a tax write-off, sparking heated discussions among fans.

It’s important to note that the removal from Netflix is unrelated to the previous removal from Max. In fact, the licensing of certain titles to Netflix, even when labeled as Netflix Originals, is a common practice. Another show, Close Enough, saw a similar removal pattern, with both of its seasons being taken down in May 2023.

Unfortunately, unlike the United States, it seems that Final Space might not find a new streaming home or be available for purchase on video-on-demand platforms in other regions. However, fans can take solace in the fact that Olan Rogers is currently working on a comic book to provide a conclusive ending to the main show’s story. The comic book, titled “Final Space: The Final Chapter,” is set to be released in 2024 and is available for pre-order.
